"I’ve been an RN for 40 years. I developed Type 2 diabetes a couple of years ago, but due to the stress of the pandemic I kept putting off dealing with this problem until my A1c hit 8.2 in September.

My fasting blood sugars were in the 200-230 range. I felt defeated thinking about how I now needed to finally address this diagnosis.

I came to work with Dione when I had very little hope. I had tried low carb diets and failed badly. In fact, it had made my blood sugar worse because I would binge on carbs on weekends. I was extremely frustrated. My A1C was close to 8. 

Dione taught me to simply combine my carbs with protein, fat and fibre. For the first time, I didn’t feel judged, and I was told I could eat rice, bread, potatoes. I just had to combine them with other things judiciously. What truly changed me was that I had stopped worrying about food. It created space for many other things, like movement. I truly started enjoying movement. Long walks, hiking, a bit of weights. I think, not being judged and teaching me skills to eat carbs with the right combination truly changed things for me. Also, Dione suggested books on intuitive eating and it truly transformed my relationship with food. My A1C after three months was 6.8.
